  1. In theory, you can homeschool armed with nothing but a library card. In practise, though, you will probably want to buy some resources. This is a good place to cruise though: http://homeschoolreviews.com/ It's not exhaustive by any means, but it's a good way of getting an idea on what's out there. Also, if you pick a method to use, you can join online groups and get lots of advice. If you are looking for inexpensive, but want a plan to follow, consider http://www.amblesideonline.org

You DO NOT have to buy a full packaged curriculum. You can pick and choose bits from here and there. You can decide the internet and the library are quite sufficient for some subjects.

  2. I home schooled for one year and it was sponsored through the school district.  They received full funding as though my son were in public school and in exchange, supported us with textbooks, assessments, field trips, materials, a library, lesson plans, state grade standards, scope and sequence for the grade, etc.  There was no charge for the services.

It is a lot of work, though.  Don't do it unless you're prepared to work like you've never worked before.  Definitely don't do it if you find it difficult to help them with their current homework.

  3. Homeschooling can be free, or cost thousands of dollars.  It depends on the method you use.

The first thing you need to do is go to http://www.HSLDA.org and find out the laws in your state.  You can also find a list of organizations on that site or at http://groups.yahoo.com  to find local support groups (at the Yahoo! site, type in "MyCity homeschool) which will be one of your biggest resources-they will help you get familiar with homeschooling, they often get together for field trips, coop classes, etc.

In fact, before you make a large purchase, join a local suppor group and you can probably look over some of the materials others use to get an idea of what is available and what you think will work best fory our children.  Do not make a large purchase right now.

I hope this helps, and I wish you the best!

  4. Option depend on where you live. In some places it can be free to use an online charter. I would definitely check out all your options before paying that much. I have homeschooled my 3 children now and never had to pay anything. In fact they reimburse me for my internet bill.

  5. why would you home school your children? it makes them social outcasts

  6. Homeschooling is awesome! No way would it cost that much. Just type it in google and find a company to get books from!

Hey if you send them to public school they: Might get into drugs, learn how to cuss early in their life and so on. If you actually meet a real homeschooler they now how to interact. duh. They do tons of stuff thats outside of the home.

  7. Don't home school them, that is a waste for them socially.  It is part of the experience of growing; learning how to social interact with others rather than their own family.  I know a few people who were home schooled and they are very socially awkward

    SEND THEM TO PUBLIC SCHOOL

  8. People homeschool for anywhere between nothing and thousands of dollars. My parents home-educate my siblings and I for approx. $50 per kid, per year.

The cheapest ways to home-educate are to eschew all the pre-planned, bought-in products, curricula etc and simply put together your own homeschooling programme using the numerous library resources; web-based resources (often free); people in your community with special knowledge, experience, language skills, professional experience etc; second hand resources; swapping resources with other homeschooling families and so on and so on.
