  1. Ann, we married last May.  My wife is very handy with a computer and downloaded all music we liked and wanted played at our reception.  My  bosses son plays the guitar and he played the music before and after the ceremony, so there again we got the choice of what we wanted played.  We spoke with the wedding person at the hotel our reception was being held at and he arranged for speakers for us.  That way we just had to bring the computer.  A woman my wife works with has a young son who enjoys playing with computers and he is rather shy also.  So we offered him some cash to play our list of music, he refused the cash but did play the music.  It was a great day for everyone and we got to hear the music we loved without having to hear other songs we might not like as well.  Just a suggestion but it did work for us.  Best of luck.

  2. Load it on your iPod, attach it to a docking station, and hook up some speakers.  You will have to get someone to start and stop it as needed and you will have to time things out so you don't have to do a lot of shuffling for the right song.

    Good luck!

  3. If someone has a good stereo with surround sound speakers, you can use that.  You can even get an FM tuner for an ipod and broadcast your music over the radio!

  4. Have a browse around the local area, if you don't want to hire a dj there might be a local band that would be honoured to play for your wedding, for a small fee or some may do it for free. Another idea, ask at the local school, there might be some budding young musicians who would be able to play for you. Most schools (especially high schools) have music programs and encourage students to perform, and you never know, they might love an opportunity to perform.

Good luck on your special day, hope it's perfect!

  5. We ended up making a CD of all the songs that we wanted played, and in the order that I wanted them played. Then, I had instructions for the guest book attendant of when to stop and start the music (since the stereo was right near her). This made for the perfect guest gift (the cd)

Talk to the place where you are holding the reception, find out what kind of music system they already have in place. That will make a big difference on how you will pull this off.

  6. Use a quality CD burner and mix your own CD's, then use a multi-disc player so you don't have to have someone change out the CD's for you.  I did that at my wedding and selected the songs in the order I wanted them to be played.  It was great!

  7. Some people just rent a few speakers and an iPod hookup. Make your playlist ahead of time and ask a friend or relative (before the wedding day) if they will be your DJ (it would be nice to pay them a small amount or get them a gift for their help).

Several weeks before the wedding, go over your "DJ's" responsibilities. That person is in charge of hitting play when it's time for the music to start, pausing it whenever someone needs to speak (for toasts, announcements, etc), switch from a dinner playlist to a dancing playlist (if you have one), etc. If you want that person to make announcements like "Here are the bride and groom!" or "It's time to cut the cake!" you should explain that ahead of time, and list what you want said and when.

And do let them know that they don't have to hover over the music - they should go get food, enjoy the dancing, etc.

  8. look around for a DJ you might find a really good price and if not get an i pod and connect it to a stereo or if you dont have an i pod then burn Cd's (make mixed Cd's) and put it in the stereo

  9. Ask a friend that you can trust to do it. Make it as organized as possible for the person by giving them a list of all the songs on the cds, and by putting the songs in order of when they will be used.

    Good luck!

  10. I don't know what state you are in but my girlfriend just hired a dj for her husband's birthday party and he is doing it as a favor at 150 for 4 hours.  He usually charges 350 and she gave him a list of songs she wants played.  I don't know what your budget is but shop around.  I have heard of some people use their IPODS or MP3 players or music stored on their computers.

  11. Ask around in your group of friends.  Someone just might have some really nice equipment they are willing to let you use.  Also someone might actually enjoy being your free DJ for the night.  Just get the word out there to your friends and family and see what they have to say.  Everyone knows someone afterall!!!

  12. Our church provided a sound tech. as part of the fee that we paid to the church.  However, you can use an IPOD or burn the music to Cd's.  Have someone push play when you want the music to play.  It is best to have an order of worship printed off for the person who is playing the music, with the song information when it is supposed to be played.

  13. cannt hire a dj?

    cannt buy expensive audio equipment?

sing with your groom as you two walk down the isle.

add a little dancing also while you walk, snap your fingers.

the guests provide the background rythm.

    "baby I got you!"

  14. Here is my idea.... I didn't want to hire anyone either so this is what I came up with.... .I think that we are going to buy a Karaoke machine and make a CD and play it!!
