  1. If in Ohio you can file a UCC on it.

    I hope this helps.

  2. you have a tough job proving you have any rights to the boat at all. Nothing in writing anyhow. If you could provide wittness testimony then maye you have a chance. But as it sits now ,,your friend seems to have screwed up.

  3. Hopefully you have something to prove that you have paid for half the boat.  You could put a lein on it if you could prove that you have money invested in the boat which will need to be paid back to you... reciepts for parts, repairs, bill of sale with both names on it, etc.

Also keep in mind that it is on YOUR property, and if you are not a co-owner, then some storage fees will probably be owed to you from the children as well, before the release of the boat.

You may end up having to give back the boat if you cannot prove these things, or if the children are willing to reimburse you for your half and the storage.

If it is currently on your property, keep it locked up, and bring your case to court... basically, it is a civil matter at this moment that will need a ruling from a judge.

To be fair and honest though, I would offer the children your friend's half of your investment for you to keep the boat, or work out a similar deal that you had with your friend with the children.  This will save a lot of grief and stress of a court hearing and will keep things civil with you and your friend's family.

    Good Luck!

  4. Marineliens.com!!  Saved my butt for sure!  I had a guy owe me a LOT of money for the yacht that I worked on, he hemmed and hawed for months until I finally went through and put a lien against the boat...  got my money within 3 hours!

It's a FREE service, just fill out the info and print out the lien and give it to the kids...

You'll need your receipts of course to back up that fact, though.  Bank records can help to, good luck!
