A couple of friends and I started a non-profit organization a couple years ago after I lost my daughter in a house fire. it is called The Carrolina Davis Memorial Foundation. We haven't done anything with it since then but I want to get it up and running. It is an aid to fire victims. We take donations of clothes money and whatever else people would like to donate. My problem is that the friends I started it with have very busy lives and don't want to continue, but I feel that it is a great help that really is not available through city funding or The Red Cross. How do i recruit donations and set up fundraisers?

  1. Create a website. Make flyers. Do a joint fundraiser with local school. People always want to help schools and who wouldn't want to help you. Research a type of fundraiser that would work in your area and then contact a couple local schools (all ages) and see if the principals or student councils would be interested in teaming up! Good luck!

  2. If I wanted to raise money for something serious and that would help others, I would have a charity auction to start out. Talk to local businesses, present them with your plans and what your charity is all about. Ask for donations such as gift certificates or a product. If you know someone who is an auctioneer, ask them to donate their time. Have your church set up a food stand to sell food at the auction.

Keep it simple, like hotdogs, chili. chips, coke, etc.

I would contact your county office and see if they know what you can do.
