Hi, I am 15 years old and I work in manual labor at a dock and repair large boats, which includes sanding, painting, waxing, etc. I work full time there right now and have been doing it since the start of summer (around julu 2nd)..

But I am sort of getting tired of it, and don't wish to work there anymore;I want the last 2 and a half weeks of summer to be having fun with my friends and going to parties and so fourth.

How do I go about quitting the job? Do I need to give a notice? What do I say?

  1. Yes you absolutely should give notice, and do the best you can while you are still employed there. I understand that you do not wish to be there anymore, the very thought of going in may give you the willies, however you have a responsibility to 1) do your job as long as it is still your job. 2) notify the right people about what your dislikes are about the job, give the company a chance to give you a position that better suit your needs. If you simply do not want to work thats fine as well, you are young, a would not recommend a full time job for anyone under the age of 17, it takes away from  the larger focus and that to me is education.

DO NOT and i repeat DO NOT burn your bridges, you never know when you may need to cross them again.

Leaving a job without notification even under the worse circumstanses is the most iresponsible thing you can do. You may need this company's reference one day, do you want the that company to tell potential Employers that you simply Quit becuase you didnt want to work anymore, and that becuase you quit without notice the company had a hard time fulfulling their obligations with their customers? Yes i am exagerrating a tad, but do you want to gamble?

Lastly you admittedly stated that you just have gotten tired of the job, no issues with management, co workers or anything for that matter. These people treated you good, gave you a chance that some may never have gotten, you OWE them that much.

    Do the right thing..

And Jesus are you serious, some of the responses i am reading are simply retarded.

oh i just noticed scholl is two weeks away, again let them know you do not wish to continue, but if you have to stay on for that last two weeks that you would, but you would prefer not to. Be responsible, trust me it pays off in the long run.

  2. you say, 'see ya', 'wouldn't wanna be ya' and off you go with a smile on your face.

  3. what about asking for vacation day or another way to keep your job and take a break at the same time because if you quit you have to be sure

  4. You have got to give a minimum of 4 WEEKS notice in writing.

  5. You need to let them know...(2 weeks notice)  I would discuss the possibility of you working part time during school but ask if you could take the break before school starts to get some stuff done (they don't need to know why you want the break).  Just don't walk out on them.  You will want a job in the future and if you apply somewhere else and your prospective employer calls these guys about what kind of worker you were...they are going to remember that you walked out on them.  Employers need notice so that they can find a replacement and get them trained.

  6. storm in to your bosses room and make silly demands that he will never forfill!!

flail your arms around, shout alot - maybe throw something

them storm out - shouting "stick your job a*ss h*ole!!"

    worked for me!

  7. depends on what was agreed, but if i were you (15) i wouldnt rely on them paying me once i said i was quitting, so wait for payday and then walk out. Tell you are leaving immediatly.

  8. First of all thank the manager for the oppertunity, then just tell him that you want to take a break before you go back to school dont burn your bridges ! have you thawt of maybe contiuing on a temporary basis maybe on weekends or some afternoons ? And you only have to give notice if that is what you agreed to when you started. Its just a summer job so i dont think you will

  9. if you are entitled to paid leave or sick days or anything and you want that money i would put in my 2 weeks notice but if thats not a issue, just dont show up for work ever again - thats how ive quit every job ive had
