  1. Don't wait too long to find information. Depending on what your Major is and how long you want to go may limit your choices. At my university students can study abroad anytime after their first year of college. Look on your University's website, they should have information about the countries and their universities that your school works with. The great thing about studying abroad (and doing your research early) is that the credit your earn abroad can count towards your degree at home. But plan ahead! I wanted to study abroad my Junior year ( I just finished my freshmen year as well) but I can't because I am in the education program and it requires that I am here, taking certain courses during my Junior year so that I can do Student Teaching my Senior year. Also, look into summer programs. These are great also if you have trouble matching your classes with those in other universities. You can still get course credit in summer programs. Even though they are shorter (anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months), its much cheaper. You can still have a great experience and improve a second language. I hope you look more into studying abroad because it is such a great experience. I studied abroad in high school and it was one of the best choices I've ever made. College is one of the perfect times to see the world, so take advantage of what your University has to offer!

  2. Check w/your college and see if they have any programs.
