How do I go online with my iPhone if its unlocked and using t-mobile?

Do I have to sign up for some plan to go online? Or is going online on Wi-Fi Hotspots free?

I also have t-mobile in my 16gb iphone, you don't have to sign up for a plan to go online.

all you do is find a wi-fi hotspot, and it's completely free. NO CHARGE.

You should sign up for the T-Mobile Total Internet Add-On which is $19.99 per month added to your monthly bill to for EDGE access (whenever you don't have Wi-Fi).

You can connect to Wi-Fi hotspots for free as well.
