How do I go to the olympics as a spectator?

Let's say I want to go to the 2012 olympics as a spectator, for vacation. Can one simply just buy tickets for the events they want to see? How does this work?

i think the tickets go out like a year in advance lol and i guess you'd better book that flight early too
