Any help will be great. I am in New Brunswick, Canada, people here have no idea what to do. I buy them already ground in South Carolina but I found unground ones at a health food place but I need to grind them.

  1. Throw the unground dried hominy into pork stew or ther sauce dishes. taste great the way they are.

Easier and cleaner to buy ground grits at the market.

  2. It usually takes a grist mill to grind grits. However, if you can find a small coffee grinder (Sunbeam makes them) then you can try that. I have one and use it to grind many things. I don't know if a food processor would be powerful enough to grind the hominy to a grit. I just got my grits from my family in Louisiana. Sorry but could not find them here in Canada. :(

  3. Try the grinder attachment that goes with a food processor.

  4. I know that way back when, people used coffee grinders to grind grits with, so, probably the best way would be with a hand cranked coffee grinder so you can grind them to the right consistency.

  5. I used to stone grind my corn meal at a local natural food CO-OP,do you have one in your area?if so ask if you can use theirs...

BTW you haven't lived until you have eaten corn bread made from fresh ground Corn...I suspect your grits will be equally as good.

  6. You'll need a grain grinder.  Or you could use an old fashioned style coffee grinder with a hand crank.  Amazon carries both.
