I have two vines growing out of huge pots.Threre are lost and lots of little yellow flowers, which means that is where a pumpkin will grow.I want to have just a few good sized pumpkins.Should I remove most of the flowers and leave just a few to send all the energy to those pumpkins? What is your experience with growing larger sized pumpkins? Thanks.

  1. In pots you won't get very large pumpkins but yes, you're on the right track. Don't start pulling flowers unless you're hand pollinating. Instead, wait for the base of the flower to start bulging. This is the pumpkin forming. Then decide which pumpkins to keep. Since they're in pots you'll want ones that are close to the ground so as they grow they don't rip the vine out of the pot. You'll want to keep all of the leaves. These fuel the growth of the pumpkin. If you don't have access to more ground you can get other pots and bury vines in them. The vines will root and be another source of vigor for the plants.
