  1. You can not wash wool you have to get it professionally done at a dry cleaners. If you wash it it comes out smelling all funny like. Pretty gross! Good luck and hope this helps!

  2. Im not sure about a jacket but I have successfully hand washed a wool sweater by doing the following: Get 3 large tubs and fill them with cool, clean water. In the first tub add a capful of woolite (just a little, it doesn't have to actually be sudsy) place the garment in the soapy water and gently swish around, then take garment and place in next tub of plain water and swish to rinse, do a final rinse in last tub of plain water, then on a fluffy, absorbent towel lay your garment and roll up in towel to absorb excess water, lay flat to dry and gently pull into shape.

Or you could just try Dryel....they sell it at the grocery store in the cleaning aisle....it works good.

  3. The only way to wash wool is in very cold water, by hand and there is a soap on the market called "Woolite" you need only a tablespoons of soap into a sink of cold water. Then submerge the jacket into the soap and water and gently rub the soiled parts. empty the water and squeeze the excess water out of the jacket, DO NOT WRING it out.  Then fill the sink again with very cold water to rinse out the soap, with a tablespoon of liquid fabric softener or a tablespoon of white vinegar. again squeeze out the water as much as possible - then roll the garment in two clean bath towels.  Lay it on a flat surface with another two bath towels under it or a clean sheet.  It will take a long time to air dry this way, maybe a day or two.  But it is the only way to wash it without ruining it. Remember nice things require special attention.

    Good luck.

  4. It has to be dry cleaned, you can't wash it because it will shrink drastically!..

  5. Elsa,

Does it say on your garment to hand wash?

If not don't do it as folks have posted in response if you do pray and pray that it don't shrink or become something you wouldn't want to be caught dead wearing!!

    Good luck,

  6. Check the label, if it can be water washed -

    * Use Woolite (or other neutral wool detergent) in a cold Gentle wash setting at high water level to reduce mechanical action.

    * Rinse twice also cold at hi level.

    * Do Not spin dry. Place on a flat surface (in shade) out side to air dry.

    Good luck!

  7. Can't.

Pick a drycleaner and check for coupon or discounts.  For something as heavy as a wool jacket or even a comforter, make sure you check that they use Perc for solvent.  The super cheap cleaners use a raw solvent that is harsh on the skin and does not dry thoroughly which leaves an odor.  This is more important on the heavier items.
