Question:

How do I hang my 42" Plasma on an internal dry stud wall??

I want to hang my 42" Plasma on a dry stud wall in an upstairs bedroom. Behind this is another dry stud wall which one of the walls where the stairs are. Between each of the internal walls is an 8cm cavity. So all I've got play with is a couple of studs and plasterboard! Short of ripping the wall down and reinforcing it (is this easy to do? if so how could I do it short of getting a professional in?) what is the best way to hang the tv on the wall.

For info: Immediately below where I want to hang the tv is a double socket and a tv aerial point.

I'm not bad at DIY (have mounted a smaller LCD in another room without any probs - but it was a brick wall), but have never done anything like this so any help is really appreciated.

  1. My suggestion would be to use anchor bolts but becareful not to hit a stud behind the wall so use a stud finder to make sure your target area is clear.

Distribution of weight if a factor so you do not yank out the stud bolt.

I used  a 1"/ 4" board accross my border line top and bottom and attached a T.V. mount rack. This way the weight was on the rack and not the stud.

  2. Add some 14.5 inch cross pieces perpendicular to the studs to give you more surface to mount to.

If non-load-bearing, use a powerhammer to join the wall to the floor and deck screws to join to the ceiling josts more sturdily.

Use s***w-in steel anchors to mount if anything must miss a stud.

  3. Get a stud finder and follow directions
