How do I have a phone and fax share one line? Either leave a message or send a fax, how do I set this up?

I now have cable tv and internet, I need to have a phone line and fax option. I am considering getting phone line through the cable company. How do I set up phone and fax on same line where an incoming caller can leave a message or send a fax?

get a splitter where you can plug in two itmes. one side is for the phone and second is for the fax.

I've found that if you try to share one line, you either have to have the fax plugged in or the phone and you can't do both (I unplug my phone and plug in my fax only when I need to send a fax or when I am expecting to receive one). If you want to be able to have both functions at the same time, you can either get a separate phone line for the fax or purchase a device that filters the types of calls to the appropriate machine on the same phone line. Check with your cable provider. It may offer digital phone service. Then get a fax software. Your done.
