If you are a member of AAA you can get discounts to alot of activities. They also have guidebooks that  list places  of interest like museums and attractions. You can pick them up for areas you want to visit or even for your own area to figure out what's going on.

Also keep an eye out in your local paper. They usually have a listing of free activities coming up.

You'll get a lot out of your summer vac if you put a lot in - by which I mean think about something you'd like to learn/achieve (not connected with school work). Like learning to swim better, do karate, skating, gymnastics, tennis, gym, volleyball - all of these things will help you to stay active, keep fit and banish boredom.  If  you can do these things with your friends, that's even better. If you live in or near open countryside, going for group walks and developing map reading skills can be really good fun. Take a digital camera, photograph wildlife, and identify what you've seen when you get back home.
