I want to have my Wii and PC connected to the internet at all times. Right now I have to unplug the DSL cable from my PC and plug it into the Wii in order for it to work. Is there a way to leave them both plugged in? I am not sure if I need a network bridge, router, hub, etc...

  1. buy a wireless router.  the wii has built in wi-fi, which means you will be able to put it anywhere in your home and it will connect wirelessly to the wi-fi router.  the router will also have Ethernet ports for a wired connection.  the router typically sits next to the modem.

the typical connection for broadband internet will go like this:

cable or line (from wall) >>> modem >>> wireless router >>> computer.

the wii, and any other wireless device, like a laptop or ipod touch, can connect as long as they are in range of the router.

a router acts as a hub/switch as well, so you won't need to buy those separately.

  2. Any router will do if you're ok with using wired connection.  The router will "share" the internet connection from your DSL to multiple devices.

Including all of my DSs, game consoles, and computers at my house, there's 12 devices all sharing the same internet connection using the router :)
