We have a Samsung HT-X50 home theater system hooked up and have no problem turning on the surround sound speakers for DVD's--but cannot figure out how to turn it on for TV shows etc. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks !

  1. The reason is that the audio "IN" of your Home theater system is connected only in the DVD player rather than your TV. It only produces the sound that comes from your DVD. You could connect the Audio "OUT" of your TV(if there is), commonly used in recording TV shows, to Audio "IN" of your HT-X50. This might work but I'm not sure if it would produce a sorround sound. Front and center will work but I doubt the rear speakers because most TV shows doesn't support 5.1 or higher. Hope this could help.

  2. you have to hook the audio cables up to the amp, coming out of the back of the satellite box,

  3. I looked up the owner's manual for your system:

When you have a stereo source, such as TV show or CD and you want surround, you can make it using the Dolby Pro Logic II feature.

On the left side of your remote, towards the bottom section is a button that says "mode."  Right above that is the double D Dolby  Symbol PL II.  When you watch a TV show, press this button and you cycle through different options:  music, cinema, pro logic, matrix and stereo.  Find which one works for you.  Descriptions of each are in your owner's manual on p. 51.

Next to that button is an "effect" button.  That only has an effect when in music mode, p. 52.

Note, the above will work for any two channel source you have plugged in with the red/white analog cables.
