Question:

How do I heat water to the proper temperature for green or white tea in a stainless steel kettle?

Before I had a kettle, when I used either a regular pot on the stove or a glass measuring cup in the microwave, I could tell by sight: stop when the bubbles form on the sides for white tea, when the tiny bubbles rise for green, and a proper boil for black tea. I had been planning on getting a glass stove top kettle, but my mother bought me a stainless steel whistling one instead. Is there a rule of thumb for time/temperature? My stove is gas.

  1. Just take the top off and look at the water.

  2. Boil your water in a tea kettle and remove from heat. At this stage, the water temperature will be close to 200 F (93 C). Pour hot water into an empty teapot, filling it. Water temperature will drop to around 185 F (85 C). The teapot is pre-warmed at the same time, which is a nice added benefit.

  3. every know and then put a spoon in and then l**k the spoon you will know the tempureture

  4. Just pay attention to it, you will be able to predict when it whistle after a few times.  Plus Your going to want to use distilled water, it far better than tap water or bottled water.  Yes even better than water from the home filtration system.  Look it up!

  5. It really doesn't really matter what you boil your water in as long as it is boiling when you add it to your tea.  April

  6. when it whistles, it is done and ready to use. Pretty simple actually. =) Typically, would say that a kettle of water would take roughly 6 minutes to boil. I would remove prior to it boiling.. around the five minute mark. That much heat would be pleanty hot for your tea. Also, just use trial and error. If it is too hot the first time, dont keep it on as long the next. Good luck! =)

  7. it will whistle when its ready

  8. when it wistles it boiling pull it off heat for ten seonds for whit and 5 seconds for black
