Question:

How do I help a migrated/rejected piercing to heal without scarring as quickly as possible?

I have had my rook pierced for a little over a month now, and it has been giving me all sorts of trouble. this is my 17th piercing and by far the most bothersome; ever since i got it it, has had at least one problem at every given time -- irritation, swelling, infection, oozing, redness. it would have been a beautiful piercing but it would never heal properly.

I have recently noticed that it has been migrating south very quickly (like i said i have only had it over a month), to the point that it's very close to breaking through the skin. This totally explains the irritation I've been experiencing. I plan to take it out and let it heal over so that i can re-do it with a high quality metal in hopes that it will do better next time, but I'm in search of some kind of an anti-scarring cream or treatment of whatever type that will help it to heal as quickly as possible and to look as nice as possible when the healing is complete. Any suggestions?

  1. Vitamin E is very helpful with healing and with preventing or treating scars. You can get gel caps and just puncture them or try to find it at a natural store. Hopefully it was just the metal- i love my rook piercing and never had a bit of trouble! Did you get a ring or barbell? A barbell tucks away very nicely so it doesn't get irritated even by sleeping on it or long phone conversations. In my experience, anyway. Keep up sea salt soaks once you take it out, too, to help continue to draw out any infection so it can heal up nicely.

  2. I know it sounds gross, but put s***n on it.  I'm serious, it's packed with sodium and will help to dry it out a bit.  You can also clean it with saline solution when s***n isn't readily available =)
