We bought a log looking thig, so they can chip their way in.. but they have been tearing it apart, with no end. Its not hollow enough I suppose.

Sooo we bought a little whicker type basket for them, but they havnt gone inside it. They are instead, tearing it apart and lining the basket. Is there anything I can add in there to help them line the basket?

Newspaper.. cloth..I am not sure what I can do to help them.

  1. i dont think birds in cages are supposed to build nests because when their eggs hatch the cage would be crowded and the bird couldnt fly around

  2. Parakeets are "community breeders", like the common sparrow. You need lots of them if you want to raise them.

  3. What you do is head on down to your pet store and ask for nest boxes. They are wooden boxes you attach to the cage or set  inside the cage. There are different  materials you can put inside. I used shredded newspaper.  I think that is about the only way they are going to nest.   Let them tear the log apart it is good for their beak. I don't know if they will use it for nesting material after you get the box, they will decide if it is right.

  4. Are you trying to breed them? If so, why? There's countless budgies sitting in shelters and rescues right now.
