How do I help my sister who is too shy to join clubs in her school?

She has a hard time making friends, so I told her to join some clubs when school starts up again, so she won't be lonely again like last year. She says that she's too embarrassed to join since a lot of people saw her last year as weird, and rarely speaking, so it would be weird to just start joining things. I tried to convince her that it's better to just take the risk and feel uncomfortable, but then feel welcomed after a while instead of sitting at home with no friends the rest of the year.

Is there a way to force her? Also, which kind of clubs should I recommend her to join?

Well depending on age and things, it might not be a good idea to force her.  I just don't believe in forcing.  If you do and she gets there and doesn't like it nad it turns out like before you have nailed the coffin shut so to speak.  I would try seeing what types of intersts she does have and see if there aren't some OTHER type of social things a that aren't associated with that school, those friends etc..   Someplace where starting out new is normal.  A place to volunteer if she likes reading or cooking.  A local bookstore for poetry night.  A class at a community college in some sort of art. (you know the weekend kind- just for younger kids)  A camp that works and meets together and then takes trips around the country once a year to help recover from devastation.  Maybe she just needs something that doesnt' feel so false or boring to her.  What you choose to have her do has a lot to do with WHO she is.  You really need to start there.  Good Luck

Play volleyball or basketball with her and then talk her into trying out for the team if she's good at either, sports always boost someone's confidence. If she's not the sporty type, just see what else she likes doing and get involved as much as possible. You can't really force it, just give it time and let her know that giving it a shot is the least she can do.
