How do I hold a hold a benefit at my school to raise money for Africa?

My friend and I are in the 7th grade, and I came up with the idea to help children in Africa. I don't know where to get started. We did some research but we couldn't find some reliable websites. I was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers or somewhere were we could start. I really want to raise money and we have a plant to hold a benefit or fundraising at my school but where would we send the money to or how would we send it?

I would say www.savedarfur.org or www.joinred.com are good places to start, that's where most of the celebrities such as Bono are raising money. The next step would be to either talk to the student council (if there is one) or just talk to the principal about it.

Do anything and everything.

Sell candy, have a raffle, have a bake sale, hold a sports event and have people pledge money for every goal scores, have someone design post cards and then sell them. Anything and everything.

Find an organization that sends the money straight to those in need and not through the government. In many countries, aid sent through the government never gets to the people it was intended for.
