Question:

How do I hook up a fuel cooler on my car?

I have a 1993 ford taurus 3.8L V6 automatic GL. I would like to install a "fuel cooler" on my car because I believe I am having trouble with "vapor lock." I want to install a "flex-a-lite 4136 fuel cooler" but it does not say if it would fit my car or where it should be hooked up at on my car. Any help would be a big help to me.

  1. I would try other things.A good place to start is changing your fuel cap.

  2. under hood connect between fuel rail and fuel line but i doubt vapor lock is your problem

  3. The Flex-a-lite cooler will not help you, it is a fuel to air heat exchanger and will not cool your fuel any lower then ambient air temperature and since your car cycles fuel from the tank through the fuel rail and back to the tank it should be that cool now.  As for it vapor locking, that isn't likely, most fuel injected vehicles don't have problems with vapor locking.  The only injected Ford vehicles I have ever seen vapor lock were Econoline vans, and then only when above 90 degrees and they where running ethanol blended fuels.  Once in a while we find one that will boil the fuel in the rails after it is shut off and the engine heat has time to soak into the fuel rail that is stagnant.  If you car is loosing fuel pressure when it is hot I would suggest looking into the fuel pump to see if it get hot and quits.
