  1. If you want true 5.1 surround sound, DO NOT use analogue red/white stereo cables. Use a digital connection (digital coax, optical, hdmi). These outputs should be on your ps3.

  2. hah, noob, if you have a hd tv, no problem.

on the back of your tv, there should be a part that says YbPbR1, or something like that, just take your red white and take your blue, green and red section of the wires and hook them up into that YbPbR1 or whatever section, and then take your white and red section of cords, and hook them up to the left and right adio of the YbPbR1 section, i have white on left, and red on right

ok wait, sorry, idk exactly what the ps3 cords are like, i havent played mine in a while, im thinking of my 360, well if it has the same kind of set up on cords, that should do you fine, and then on your t.v. remote, there should be a button that says like, "comp." or something, it stands for component, and then just press that, you may have to press it a couple of times to get to the right component

but if you wanna save the hassle and get the best audio and video quality, get an HDMI cable, just one simple cable that plugs in to your tv, much better
