  1. Your home theater system does not have the proper inputs for surround sound.

While you can use the standard red/white RCA cables from the PS3's AV cable kit, this will only give you stereo sound.  Granted, your theater's speakers are probably better than your TV's built-in speakers, but it won't be surround sound.

Just connect the PS3 to your TV directly with HDMI, then use the PS3's AV cable to connect the red/white cables to the theater system.  If your TV doesn't support HDMI, you can also use the PS3 Component Cable kit (just buy the Sony one - it's the cheapest and works just as well as the pricier ones.)  In that case you'd connect the red/blue/green video cables to your TV and the red/white audio cables to your sound system.  If the cables aren't long enough, just get some generic RCA extension cables available anywhere audio accessories are sold.

  2. After looking at the manual for your RCA surround sound receiver it appears not to accept inputs for other video sources. It does however accept audio so you can buy some RCA "composite" audio cables and hook the red and white cables between the receiver and PS3.  Then connect your PS3 to your TV with an HDMI cable since your TV accepts HDMI.  Just buy an inexpensive HDMI cable (expensive cables are a hoax) and connect the PS3 to it.  If you want the surround system to run the audio you must go in and configure the sound options in the PS3 to use the composite cables.  If you want the TV to have sound then cconfigure the HDMI to carry the audio.  Not sure if you can do both, but I would only use one or the other anyway.

I personally buy my cables from bluejeanscables.com.

    Hope that helps.

  3. To even begin to remotly enjoy the capabilities of your PS3 I would seriously look at upgrading that reciever of yours, to one that is HDMI compliant.

You already have an HDTV with HDMI, just buy a simple Onkyo 605, or 606 reciever from 350.00-450.00 and enjoy lossless audio on the bluray portion of the PS3, enjoy Furoudija scaling for improved picture quality and enjoy some decent power instead of that RCA reciever.

  4. You need a better a reciever.  You could make yours work, but it would be wasted effort as it would sound terrible.

Why do people still buy RCA and Magnavox garbage from wal mart.  Over the life of the tv, that $100 you saved upfront is about $15 a year, and now your stuck with garbage!

PS i dont mean to sound rude, its just that you should always research any major purchase like a TV or reciever...  GOOGLE IT!
