How do I hook up my Wii to my tv? (not typical AV wires)?

I have a wii that i borrowed from my brother in law. the av cable he gave me has a blue, green, two reds, and a white wires ending on it. i've plugged the colors in to match to my tv, but all i get is a distorted image on my tv. could it be broken? or is it just not hooked up properly? he DID say it was difficult to hook up, but didn't say how to do it. thanks

you need to get the "yellow white red" cable from him

When you hooked it up was it an HD TV or an SD TV.You see the wires you describe are most likely HD components that hook up to a HD TV also be sure you put them on  the right colors.

Yes that may be the promblem did he happen to give you the simple red white and yellow wire?If he did use those wires instead.

You have component cables.

You need composite cables.

He should have the composite cables as well, they come with the console. I'd ask him about it, he probably has them put up somewhere.
