I don't have a car yet but when I get one I want to install a computer in it so I can listen to music and other things. I have been doing a lot of research on how to do this and I think I have everything I need figured out like power, peripherals, etc. The only thing I am having trouble grasping is the audio. The main problem is that I don't now anything about how audio is set up and how it works in a car. The only thing I have come across so far is this "article"

http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/advfaq.php?do=view&advfaqid=7

Can anyone please point me in the direction of a good tutorial on how to do this.

  1. The article you list is exactly how it's done.

You can take the audio directly out of the PC to the input of an amp. You just have to set the gain right.

The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp to prevent clipping (damage by over powering).

Here is a guide that will help you set the gain correctly http://www.datafilehost.com/download.php...

You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.

If you don't have Excel, use this link http://www.box.net/shared/nkkw1dhk4g

  2. If your Headunit has rca INPUTS, you connect the output from the comp to those, then to activate it you'll probably have to put the headunit on AUX or something like that....
