How do I hook up this DVD player?

I've got a 1994 Sharp model 19f M40 TV. I'm trying to hook up a DVD player to it, but there is no input holes in the back of the TV. I know that this TV has been hooked up to a VCR/DVD combo before (it was years ago and someone else hooked it up for me), so I know it can be done. I have a Direct TV box, could I hook it up to that? I'd appreciate some help!

  1. if the direct x box has a scart socket, try plugging it into that

  2. You cannot connect the DVD player to your direcTV box.  You will need to connect them separately to the TV.

If your TV does not have enough open inputs, you can get a AV switch from the store for about $20 that will allow you to connect up to 4 different things to a single input on your TV.  These switches can connect to your TV with either standard AV cables (yellow, red, white) or the single thick coax cable.  Check to see which your TV supports.  The DirecTV box and DVD player will connect to the switch, which then connects to your TV.  You then just hit the button on the switch to go from DirecTV to DVD or back again.
