How do I identify RG6 vs RG6 Quad-Shield?

I need to repair a cable (the one behind a faceplate can be pulled out of the crimp fitting) but I don't know if it's RG6 or RG6 Quad-Shield.

How can I tell the difference? There are no markings and it was installed by Cox some time ago...

I can't call Cox because they say it's "good enough" as long as the wire stays pushed in - they won't even look at it!

  1. If the cable was installed by the cable company it is more than likely rg6, or maybe even rg59. rg6 quad shield  has four layers of foil insulation as opposed to rg6's two layers. The cable company is not going to go to the extra expense of installing quad cable when on standard catv runs the less expensive rg6 will do.

for a dagram of quad shielded cable go to http://www.smarthome.com/images/851082_d...

for a pix of standard cable go to http://www.smarthome.com/8527.HTML

  2. Your going to have to pull the jacket back and look at the sheilding.  Quad is really really really thick.
