Question:

How do I import video from my Sony Handycam (DCR-DVD610) into Windows Movie Maker?

When I try to add the .mpg files that I brought from the camera onto my laptop into Windows Movie Maker via the File | Import into Collections command, I am getting the following error:

"The file C:\Video.mpg cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

I've already tried installing the VLC media player to install the codec, but that didn't work. Any idea what codec I need and where I can get it?

  1. It's not a codec problem - WMM can't edit DVD files.  You can either convert them with Super or buy an editor that can (that's just about all of them).
