I get out of puff running around and then I can't kick the ball that far. Are there any specific training secrets?

  1. Train, train, train.  Eat well.  And practise by dashing full speed into a brick wall.  Over and over again.  You'll be primed for footy in no time!

  2. If you want to improve your sprinting, ride a bicycle for 24 miles going as fast as you can and take a break at 12 miles. For long distance, run 5 miles. These should definitely help with kicking. Especially the cycling. I suggest cycling. I play basketball and its great training for my sprinting. I'm always the fastest one on the court and I'm a white boy.

  3. give up.

  4. AFL involved alot of running, so you really need to work on your running. You need to have quick speed of the mark (being able to run qucik from a to b). But running is not everything.

Flexibilty is important. Strech before, during and after a match or training to keep your blood flowing.

But the position you play affects what skills you need. If you are a defender, you dont really need to have a good kick, but you need a good punch and need to be able to keep-up with your direct oppontent.

If you are a foward or midfielder, speed is important, and, for foward imparticular, you need to be able to mark the ball properly(chest mark, overhead mark etc etc).

Skills are not of the most importance in the lower age groups (such as Under 12's), but are good to impress your mates and maybe even take yoyr footballing career futher. Good luck.
