After 1 or 2 turns, I sort of collapse. Any advice on how to prevent that?

  1. There are many things that can help you:

    1. Spotting your head!

    2. Many teachers will tell you to keep your weight on top of you (My teachers always told me to put my sternum forward a little bit to turn) but the main thing is to NOT lean back.

    3. Work on the barre as much as possible.

    4. Forgive me, I don't know how to spell this: Relive?? Relivay?? (Be on a high demipointe)

    5.Keep your body STRONG.

The best thing to do is get your teacher to watch your turns and find what it is thats holding you back, because many dancers have their own little bad habits, for example, some girls raise their shoulders and it throws them off. or they don't Relivay right underneath themselves. Hope this helps :)

  2. Practice frequently. If you have a stronger side, make sure not to neglect the side you favor less. Also, try to make your turns calm and clean, not spastic, but still quick into the passé and always spot.

Remember, some days will be better "turning days" for you than others. But don't get frustrated- turns really do improve with significant and patient practice. In general, the most important tip I can give you is to get into the position of the turn quickly. Don't take your time getting there- it makes the turn so much more difficult.

  3. practice, practice, practice

work on your spotting, try balencing as long as you can after you come out your turn, and work on your weaker side more than your best side.
