When I swing back its fast but when I hit the ball something happens and the ball goes and rolls on the ground for 100 yards.

How do I not get under the ball when hitting a ball with my 4 and 7 iron.

How do I hit my 3 and 5 woodss off the grass?

  1. lots of practice my friend

  2. If you're thinking you need to get "under" the ball, you're off to a bad start.  Trying to get 'under' the ball will only make you more likely to top it.  Loft on the clubface gets the ball in the air.  When you try to lift, help, assist, or scoop the ball in the air, you will struggle.  WIth irons, you strike the ball while the club is still traveling downwards.

  3. Spend $12 on Hogan's book "Five Lessons, the Modern Fundamentals of Golf".  It is not so modern anymore (written in the early sixties), but it will give you some fundamentals that it sounds like you need.  So many beginners have poor fundamentals, and consequenlty just fight themselves trying to hit the ball - it is easy if you have the correct approach.

  4. This is a big question, but I will address it on three levels. First, check out videojug.com for 'how to' tips on swinging. Then buy any book from Dave Pelz, Phil Mickelson's short game coach. Then, I highly recommend buying a bunch of almostGolf balls. (recommended by Dave Pelz) almostGolf balls are a new practice ball that flies a limited distance but give you real ball flight and feedback. You can now hit real shots in your backyard, park or schoolyard without hurting anyone or breaking anything.

They are magic because I can hit shots for 15-30 minutes a day by just walking out my back door. And quality,  daily practice that is convenient and sustainable is what is going to groove your swing and help you begin to become a ball striker. If you don't do this, you will have to go to the range once or twice a week, hit your bucket and then wonder why you haven't developed a solid swing. Basically, just start shooting free throws and you will develop a golf game.

    Best of luck...pactice every day!

  5. I found this article with the 4 or 5 most common mistakes in golf. The first one is about the swing.

    http://www.golf-information.info/common-...

Then there is another page with links to other articles about correcting one's swing.

These articles may give you some insight about what the problem can be, but the best thing would probably be to have a private class with a good teacher who can identify your problem and give the best 'cure' to fix it.

  6. Lots of practice. It sounds like your problem might be positioning. For a driver or woods, you want to play the ball closer to your front foot. The more loft the club has, the more back in your stance you want to play it and hit down on it, versus hitting up on it like a driver. Try moving it around in your stance and see what happens.

  7. the first rule in golf.. keep your head down!!!! try going to the range and practicing that. after your follow through then you can pick your head up

  8. First get some lessons from a pro

then go to the range and hit and hit and hit

you need to practice not just hitting the ball long, but making a smooth proper swing each time, with a focus of hitting down on the ball and getting the ball in the air with each shot.

do not focus on hitting woods off of the deck at first, concentrate on short irons then when you can make a smooth proper swing with your irons, then switch to long irons then finally to woods.
