i have a volleyball skills test on thursday in physical education class, and i only have three days to practice. i was notified yesterday and went out to buy a volleyball and then practice. this morning my arms and hands hurt really badly. i went out again to practice (at the playground, we don't have a volleyball court), and my arms and hands still hurt. my serves, bumps, sets, and spikes still suck, and i only have tonight and tomorrow to practice. any advice or tips??

thanks in advance. =]

  1. you cant all of  a sudden become a good volleyball player in three days it takes practice! just like anything else! but if its only for P.E. you shouldnt worry too much . your arms are hurting because you havent had much experience playing with a volleyball, but my advice is, just keep practicing! =] mabye ask a brother, sister, parent or friend to help you out, or even ask someone to help you whos experienced playing vollyeball, good luck on your test!

  2. keep on practicing

  3. if it's your forearms that hurt and turn red, its normal. your just getting used to hitting it. it will soon stop hurting, but may still turn red of course.

spikes, keep your open hand firm and together, and it helps me to jump, even though my coach says with my height, i dont have to. also, your serves, if overhand, try maybe in a fist. it'll help, but if not, hand open like a spike, turn to your side, and just put alot of speed into it if u dont have a lot of mass in your arm. haha my coach taught me tht today. i dont, so i have to depend on the speed.

    GOOD LUCKK.!

  4. Spiking:  Pratice against a solid wall.  Throw the ball into the air and you want to hit the ball from 6 to 12 like the numbers on a clock.  When you hit ball you want to snap your wrist so it will pop right back up.  After the follow through your hitting arm should be crossed over the non-hitting arm.

Setting:  Hands above head in an open position as though you are going to grip something.  Gently toss ball in air and push it off with your finger tips.  I do this off the roof of my house for hours at a time.

    Hope this helps you.

  5. ok find a friend or a parent that will help you and have them throw the ball to you to practice setting and then for serving draw like a chalk like or something and work on getting it towards that line or you could put an X down and practice hitting it. for bumping all you can ever do is practice and try to get your arms raw(gross term i know) so they won't hurt.

-really hope it helps and good luck!

  6. there's no other way other than keep on practicing.

Don't force yourself if your hand hurts.

Just let it recover first, then you start to practice again.

When the 1st time I practice, I had the same problem as you, but now, I can play volleyball as many as I want and I love it.

I'm sure you can do good on your test.

    Good luck!

  7. TIPS FOR THE TEST:

    1. make sure that you concentrate! keep all your focus on playing well! dont get distracted by anything! pay attention to the ball and the game! dont stand in line talking to your friends and then when its your turn to spike (or whatever) you dont know what to do.

    2. pay attention to your coach! you may think that you know what your doing but if your coach gives you advice on how to fix something LISTEN TO HER(or him)!!!

    3. dont try to be the star player! be a team player instead! dont be a show off! you know how you can his the ball three times until it HAS to be over the net? well dont send the ball over on the first hit. pass it to a team mate! show the coaches that you care about the team and not only yourself.

    4. dont be afraid to get down...but dont over do it! it is possible to dive too much! dont get on the ground on every ball only the ones that you have to!

    5. keep your platform flat when you bump.

    6. set the balls pretty high so that its easy for your team mates to spike it over. remember that if you have to you can bump set the ball, which is just bumping the ball really high instead of setting the ball.

    7. when serving underhanded, you also keep your wrist tightened. and keep your fist flat. bend down a little (bend as low as you want or as little as you want, just so long as your comfortable)

    8. when serving overhended, then make sure that you tighten your wrist. (the opposite of what you do when you throw a baseball/softball) put your body into it and make sure you get a good toss.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!! and i hope you have fun!!!!!!!!!!! you can pass the test if you really try hard and practice!!!

  8. use ur brain. part of volleyball is  mental too. just remember what u learned and try to do it right. THere will be mistakes, but take it as part of lessons too. Thats how u get better. Plus its impossible to get better in 3 days. lol just do ur best

  9. i had the same problems when is started out playing, when serving and spiking keep your wrist straight and somewhat firm.  A drill that help my spiking was take a v-ball, go against a wall and keep jumping and spiking it downward. To serve just keep your wrist "firm" and pick a spot on your lawn and try to get the ball as close to it as possible...

    Hope that will help!
