  1. - After figuring out how to make your wireless home network security.

    - Unplug or power-off router when not in use.

  2. WEP is basic use the WPA encryption and might also want to enable the firewall.

  3. Have a strong wireless password that only you know. Also encrypt the data send out over your router by changing the router setting. Also don't mess around with the ports by opening and closing any of the that shouldn't.

  4. Put a password on your connection.

    wep key

  5. If you don't have a password on your wireless connection I would suggest enabling it through your router access page.

  6. Install a Reliable firewall.

    Norton Internet Security,

Zone Alarm - 2 that I've used that proven to work for me.

Frequently use a Anti-Spy ware Program.

XoftSpy is the best one I've used, since it looks for bad programs in its database, instead of time-consumingly look at programs to see what they do. Fast, reliable scanning.

If you're using a wireless router, have it locked and setup a password for it, so other leechers won't access it from across the street, and make your internet slow with bad bandwidth.

Be wary of what websites you visit - some CAN and WILL install viruses the moment you visit them, and keyloggers, possibly ruining your computer or commit identity theft.

  7. I need more information about your wireless router, but the easiest way is to set an encryption key (wep). You will have to enter this key into any wireless devices you have in order to access your network. Anyone who doesn't have the key will not be able to access your network. Also, disable broadcasting your network name. Your router documentation should tell you how to do these things.
