My computer can't get a decent signal from my router. The longest cable I found couldn't reach the router either. Is there any way i can improve my network range without having to buy a new network adapter.

  1. I totally disagree with the first response that says don't try to reach the router with a cable. There is NO comparison between  a wired connection  and a wireless connection. Wireless connections are very convenient but for someone like me who downloads large ISO files simultaneously, I would NOT depend on a wireless connection. You can by a long patch cord  with both ends already terminated  and PLUG THAT PC IN.  If you need the cable measure the distance and post it and I can tell you where to find it. the distance limitation for ethernet cat 5 is  300 feet.

  2. Position your router (therefore the aerial) as high up as you possibley can.

This is one of the basics of effective radio communication.

  3. If your router has an aerial on the back then simply get it out usually by unscrewing it and buy a high gain aerial from Maplin.co.uk ( type in ' wireless network antenna ) or if you are looking for some serious range boosting for up to 40 km then purchase an outdoor router fr about 600 pounds.

  4. Don't try to reach the router with a cable. Just use a long cable to move the router. A wireless signal from a router works like a dome. So the higher and more centralized you have it..the better signal you will recieve. Move the router. Also, be sure that you do not have any bathrooms between where you have the router and where you are trying to connect. Mirrors reflect everything..even the signal from the router. Metal is another no no for router placement. Keep it away from microwaves and so on.

  5. get a better router *a router with longer range

btw wall can distract ur wirless conection try to put it near ur computer
