Question:

How do I increase my jump's height?

I play volleyball, and I am almost fourteen. I'm still growing(thankfully), but I want to know how to increase my jumping height. I can barely reach my first bend of my pointer finger over the net, and I want to be able to put my hand up there. I am 5'4"(ish), and I would like to know whether there are any excersises that increase my jumping height.

Thanks.

  1. I would begin by maximizing the height you already have. When it comes to hitting, several components of the attack work into your height. 1) Speed of approach. 2) Amount of spring. 3) Upward swing of arms.  Volleyball is a technical sport; as such, much of the height of your jump will be in your technique. It would be difficult (albeit possible) to detail all of that technique on paper, so do you have any videos of pro or college volleyball? Try to get your hands on some. Mind the hitter's approach. Watch how they time their steps, how they crouch down and leap up, and how they swing their arms back and then up into the archer position. To transfer their forward velocity into upward velocity, they use something called the heel-toe rock, rocking from heel to toe on their last two steps, normally taking off on both feet. You may be thinking, how is it possible to transfer forward velocity into upward velocity, but consider how a skateboarder takes off of a quarter pipe which curves upward. The ramp drives his forward velocity upward. Similarly, you must drive your forward velocity upward, rocking from heel to toe. As a side note on the technique of hitting, pay attention to the direction of the hitter's approach. Usually, they will curve inward toward the setter such that their toes are facing him/her on takeoff. In order to maximize your height, you must hammer down the technique of your approach and leap. 2. you can play in the back the zones1,5,6 but you have to be good at the "buger"

  3. 1.get ankle weight and jump up and down like a frog.

    2. find a step and put both feet together and jump up  onto the step and jump back down

  4. calf jumps: jumping with your legs straight, dont bend your knees

knee jumps: jump and lift your knees to your chest

bleachers: jump up bleachers or repeatedly jump on he first level

Or get a partner 1 person gets on the ground with their knees touching the ground and elbows extended, back straight jump over them side to side

  5. well thats pretty good already.

the only way to get better at jumping(unfortunately) is <b> jumping!<b>

    line jumps

    jump rope

    jump boxes

    wall jumps

    tuck jumps

    legs weighted while jumping.

etc. srry you can look these up online, but this was just a quick post.

  6. jump roping for 1 or 2 minutes repeatedly everyday

  7. use the bottom stair of a flight and jump up with both feet repetitively...take paper bags and line them up in any kind of curved line....do power jumps over them without stopping...lift weights to increase muscle mass in legs.....put tape on the wall and do block jumps trying to reach the tape and eventually move it to see if you can jump higher...

  8. you should look into buying some Jump Soles. if you do a search on them you will proably find a website where you can order a pair. If you do decide to purchase them, some good excersizes are:

    1. just jumping up and down (you can go for time or reps.) it helps to vary the distance that you squat down between each jump. if you go lower it will work different muscles then if you just do some quick jumps.

    2. High knees

    3. try a side to side quick feet motion.

    4. 1 legged stuff is really good for isolating muscles too.

    good luck!

  9. There's plenty of exercises you can do to increase your vertical, and any jumping you do helps. Box jumps, block jumps, jump rope, two leg bounds, one leg bounds, jumping with weights.... Also calf raises or exercises, something to strengthen those muscles.

  10. you can buy little ankle weights and start to practice jumping with them, when they become too light, increase the weight. You will start to jump higher soon enough.

  11. just keep practisn and ull jump highr. or excersise alot.
