How do I increase torrent download speeds?

I'm using Vuze on my mac and the download speed is hilariously small (2.3 Kbp at average!) but I tend to download films which then need days to download, so does anyone know how to solve this? It isn't my internet conection as when i directly download i get speeds of about 100 Kbp.

you need to forward your ports if your using NAT!!!!!!!!

The best and the most important thing that u need to know about torrents is what kind of torrents u r downloading.See how many people r using it at that time i.e. downloading and its health.The more seeds the faster it is.
