How do I install a 4 channel amplifier?

Ok i have a 1200 watt 4-channel amplifier, im currently running a single Alpine type-r off of channels 1 and 2 bridged.

I want to use the other two channels to power my rear speakers and have had no luck getting it to work. Ive recently read that you need to have a total of 4 RCAs (one for each channel) running to the amp. But my head unit only has 2 RCA outputs. What do i do about this?

Also is this an odd setup and would it sound crappy only having 2 speakers running from my amp?

  1. I don't think you need 4 separate RCA's for each channel because it's only one amp correct.

Try running the speakers off of channels 1and 2,then bridge the sub off of channels 3 and 4.

If you could provide what kind of amp it is maybe we can help better.

  2. just buy 2 rca splitters and split the rca cables at the amp. they are like $2 at walmart or radioshack. as for how good it will sound, that depends on your amp and if you can adjust the crossover and EQ settings for each channel, this way your speakers dont play the same low frequencies as your subs.

  3. go to radio shack and get an rca splitter 1 in 2 outs and that will fix your problem and no it will sound fine i had a system in my last car just like that it wont be bad at all
