How do I install a D-link WBR-2310 router to a motorola 2210-02 modem?

We recently bought the D-link router and I can't get it to work! The motorola modem came with our AT&T DSL connection. Whenever I try running the wizard that came with the router the errors 109 and 112 pop up. All I've done so far is uninstall the Broadjump from my computer as instructed in the router manual. I know nothing about DCHPs, PPoEs and other technical stuff. Can anyone help?

  1. First you need to Check with AT&T tech support to see if they allow the Motorola modem to bridge to your D-Link router.

You may need to notify AT&T with the MAC (hardware) address of the D-Link device, or you may be able to spoof the Motorola modem MAC address in the D-Link configuration.  Modify the Motorola configuration to allow bridging.  Link to Motorola user manual below.

Once you have bridging enabled you need to ensure you are running a software firewall on your PC.  Comodo is the best and is free.

Configure the D-Link with your install disk.  DHCP is a mechanism that hands out a private, non-routed IP address (like 192.168.1.50 or 10.10.1.34) You should be okay with the defaults in the D-Link setup.  You need to ensure the D-Link is able to query the AT& T network so that it gets a public IP address assigned.  Once that happens the gateway IP and the DNS server IP numbers are automatically assigned. You can check your PC/laptop by openinig up a CMD window and running an IPCONFIG /all command.  You will see a wireless adapter and may see a wired adapter.

When you are configuring the D-Link turn off SSID (make sure you write down the name of your wireless network, you will need it to configure the wireless connection on your laptop/pc.)  Use WPA or WPA2 for security, they are much stronger than WEP.  Make sure your laptop/pc wireless adapter supports WPA or WPA2.  Use a strong authentication key, 18-24 characters is good.  Make sure you write this key down.  If you lose it you have to reconfigure the D-Link router.

That should take care of the Motorola to D-Link connection.
