I have a 2003 chevy montecarlo ss and i wanted to give my stock system a little more boom by adding a single enclosed 10 or 12in subwoofer. The only problem is im not sure if you can get a subwoofer installed with a stock deck without burning out the deck. Is there any way to install a subwoofer without having to get an aftermarket deck?

  1. you would also need an amplifier simply because the output from your factory and most aftermarket decks is not adequate to handle larger size speakers that you may want to install.

  2. ok so say that i put one of those loc things in. i just hook that into my rear speakers and then i send the others ends of those cables to where?

  3. yes you can install a woofer and an amp without buying an aftermarket head unit...all you would need is a LOC( low output converter)...you can get them at best buy, circuit city, even walmart...all those little devices do is tap into your rear speakers and then you connect the RCA cable  from the LOC to the amp...

  4. yes you can hook up the sub to your factory stereo and it won't get burned because the amp gives power to the sub not the stereo it's the amp and battery...an after market stereo will give you more power for the speakers though

your amp has to have the same watts rms as your subwoofer

also they should have matchings ohms

lets say the amp says 400rms at 4ohms then get a sub that is 4 ohms and says 400 rms or 400 rms at 4ohms
