How do I install a curtain rod that will hide a floor to ceiling bookcase?

I'm moving into a smaller apartment and I'm trying to be creative about storage space.My solution is to use a cheap bookcase from my parent's garage and cover it with a curtain. I figure that I can hang the curtain rod from the 8" ceiling but my challenge is how to cover the 24" sides. I basically need a rod that is shaped like |_________|. Do they make that?

Yes they do make that type of rod try Home Depot, or a place that sells curtains and rods.

go to walmart and get a simple pressure rod.

You set it to be slightly larger than the opening and then the spring inside will colapse down when you jam it in place.

They make shower curtain rods that are shaped that way, Maybe you could make one of those work. I did a curtain once like that, but an L shape and had to put a s***w in the ceiling and connect it to a wire at the corner to hold it up, You might have to put in two hooks in the corners in addition to the regular connections at the ends. I created similar thing to what you are describing. It basically looks like it floats in the air. I didn't find any such curtain rods. So I went to Home Depot and picked up a round long wooden stick (in lumber dept) and screwed in 2 hooks into the ceiling. (they are those hooks with the s***w leg) Then I put the curtain on the wooden stick and attached fisherman wire from stick to the hooks. It looked like the curtain was floating in mid air. I need it for separating room into 2 different areas.

You may want to s***w those hooks into the book shelve itself and hang the curtain on wooden rod that way.
