I want to install a decorative granite floor tile in the middle of my porcelain field tiles but it is a little thicker than the porcelain. Can I do this by varying the mortar or do I have to adjust the cement board thickness where the granite will be? I think granite needs a different mortar too. I really like this look so can someone please help me? Thanks!!!

  1. Yes, adjust (reduce) the cement board thickness under the granite to match the thickness of your porcelain field tiles.
