Question:

How do I invest in wind energy? Can I buy a small turbine and work my way up to bigger ones?

I don't intend to start a company. If I were thinking to that degree I likely wouldn't need to ask the question. I do realize the question is very basic in nature. I really want to know if anyone has incorporated the process themselves. Anyone who is investing in wind and what the pros and cons of it are? I would rather invest in a small company that I could be apart over a large manufacturing firm. I wonder if say, five to ten people could put up five to ten grand each and actually not loose their money. Lets see, that's somewhere between $25,000 and $100,000 to start. Of course this isn't borrowed money so their are no monthly commitments or anything.

  1. You can invest in wind energy stocks.  Do you intend to start your own company?

  2. Theres tons of small wind generator companies out there. They are really common on sail boats (wind powered electronics on a wind powered boat, crazy no?).

  3. Most Wind Companies are private (With good reason a recurring revenue stream for +20years with a capital outlay of $10-$20M), a person may buy wind turbines and set a 'wind farm', provided you have the correct permits and contracts with the local power companies. The largest issue is not the wind power but the current grid and transmission lines to get the electricity to market, this is the main issue with current wind projects. a small single turbine will cut your energy needs and possibly provide some energy and tax benefits.

  4. Find companies like Vestes that build wind turbines and buy stock.

I have never seen a small turbine that you can buy.
