Question:

How do I keep a big truck, 10spd,moving forward without causing it to stall out on an incline?

I have been experiencing two things that continue to happen during my classes. I stall the truck on inclines, and from time to time I will come off the clutch, it will act like it is going to move forward, jump, and then stall. What am I doing wrong?

  1. Your are not getting the clutch and gas pedal working together at the right time. Ease the clutch out and ease the fuel pedal in at the same time. Do you know where the friction point is yet. That is a must know.

  2. Give it plenty of gas

  3. OK there are several factors here despite what most will say.

A CAT Engine you can let it walk itself out. Meaning if you slowly let off the clutch it will start moving on it's own, you should not give it much throttle when letting out on the clutch, if any because it will cause you too "slip the clutch".

OK, now ISX Cummins Engine, has a little bit of a "stall" before you can go and you have to throttle a little more than in a CAT. Every engine and every truck shift and run differently, it's just a matter of getting used to the truck your driving.

    So, here is my recommendation:

On an incline at a complete stop. let out on the clutch until you feel it engage. (you feel like a grabbing) let out on the clutch SLOWLY and she should start walking for you, then throttle. If you notice it's not going to start walking give a LITTLE throttle, to get her walking for ya.

If you think or feels like it's going to stall on ya, throw that clutch back in and hit the brakes and try again!

It's just a matter of practicing sugar and in time you will be an old pro at it. Be patient with yourself and the truck.

  4. you don't have the gears and clutch problem solved. why not ask your instuctor

  5. feather it
