  1. There is a way that you can put an alert on your credit .  This means that when ever your credit is ran you will need to authorize it.  Hope this helps.

  2. Treat it like any other potential identity theft: contact the credit agencies to post a fraud alert &/or put a security freeze on your information.  You might have to pay a fee to place a security freeze.

  3. Place a fraud alert on your credit report that way any potential creditor will have to contact you before continuing with an application.  If it is proven that your ex forge's your name on an application...that's ground for fraud and possible jail time (uttering forged documents is a crime)

  4. 27 states have what is called Credit Freeze. This law allows the consumer to direct all the credit bureaus to contact you before any new credit inquiry is issued by them. Inquiries are needed to establish new credit, without that no account could be opened without your permission.   You need to apply to all three bureaus to do this and each will issue you a PIN # you must use to allow a new inquiry.  Just go to each of the sites, start with Equifax, and there should be links to see if you qualify for the credit freeze option.  there is a small fee involved but it's worth it.

  5. Place a fraud alert with the credit bureaus.... They will alert you when any new accounts are opened and will take care of it...

  6. I've had this happen to me. If you can't get alerts from the credit bureaus, which by the way is a good option. But, if you can't, go to the police and let them know they're trying to commit fraud. I don't have much faith in cops, but, the paperwork is what will help you.
