How do I keep ants out of my lizards cage?

I have a leopard gecko and about a month ago i noticed ants in his cage after the water and they had also killed the few crickets that were in there that my gecko hadn't yet eaten. I washed the whole cage out with water and made sure all the ants were gone and i tried moving the cage to a different place in my room several times but no matter where i put it the ants come back. Now I make sure my gecko eats all the crickets in the cage when i feed him or i take the remaining out but the ants still come after the water. They don't seem to really bother him but he's probably stressed and im afriad they're going to bite him or attack him or something. And of course i can't spray Raid in my geckos cage or anything like that, so what can I do?

  1. You need to find out where the ants are coming from (just follow the trail they walk in straight lines) and spray there. It's not your lizard it's your house. You need to spray all the cracks and ant trails in you room and house. Take your geko into another area while you do this and let your house vent for a few minutes, then you can bring him back when the smell is gone. Be sure to keep the windows open while you spray and use the heavy duty Raid to kill the ants, cuz they like to come back.

  2. clean your house, (no offense) and use ant powder around the cage, if that doesn't work try getting a glass tank called a vivarium, nothing can get in or out.

  3. You can get a product by ortho called home defense and then you can spray the baseboards and the window and door frame and then outside window and bottom wall and roof.  Its like 8 bucks and it should help stop the flow of ants to the room.
