How do I keep birds away from my cherry tree?

I have a cherry tree growing in my backyard. We planted it 5-6 years ago and it is doing fairly well in height. This year, the cherries first bloomed, and the first day they came out, they were gone by the second day. We finally realized that the birds in our yard have been eating the cherries. How do I keep the birds away from our 5-6 year old cherry tree without harming the tree,

  1. You need to order a tree netting and wrap your tree with it, I had squirrels get mine and in one day they eat all my pears from and very old tree I nursed back to health, There was no pear for 5 years and the tree was down to one branch and a few leaves, 3 years later it was loaded with about 300-400 pears and they where gone in one day, I was bumbed. but don't hurt the squirrels they say. here you want to bite my other knuckle.

  2. Not sure how big the tree is, but there is netting you can buy to drape over it
