How do I keep birds from pecking my tomatoes in my garden?

  1. the birds  are more than likely  after  the hornworms  on your plants.  first of all check for that . then  get  bird netting   throw it over your plants  so the birds  cant  get at  it . they dont mess around with that netting ( oh  yea  birds  dont usually  eat tomatoes  ... LOL ..  just the insects  crawling on  your plants or tomatoes  themselves )


  2. assuming they are pecking them as they ripen....when you first notice a color change on the tomato, the sugar content is at it's max so it does not benefit being on the bush any longer so you usually can pick them before the birds are attracted to them

  3. I'm not speaking from personal experience, but I've seen someone do this for a blueberry bush and don't see why it won't work for tomatoes as well, they hung a mylar balloon from the plant..... the helium lasts very long in mylar and the shinny matalic plastic scarces them away....

  5. My grandmother use to use foil pie pans.  Her tomatoes were tied up on poles and she would punch a hole in the rim of the pie pan and tie them to the top of the pole with string.  Might help.
