How do I keep child's pool algae free?

I bought my daughter a small pool (16' X 18") and wondered if I could add a small amount of bleach to pool to keep it clear. I don't see buying all this pool cleaning stuff for a small pool that will not last the summer. How much do I need to add without it harming her?

I wondered this too last year when we bought one of these pools.  The thing is no matter how clean the water is the kids bring in so much grass and leaves and debris that changing the water is essential anyway.  So I leave the water for a maximum of 3 days and then we change it.  I don't think there is a way around it...

It's really too small to add much.  You can however get one of those floating chlorinators and add a tablet and let it float in there when not in use.
