I am a single about to be mom ( 2+ wks!!) & I have been getting Medical Assistance thru the state. I want the father of my baby to sign the birth certificate & he's willing but he thinks they're going to try to bill him for the delivery & or the medical bills of the baby once he's here. I don't want to get him into any debt cuz he's a good man & has been there100%. Once the babys born I'm spossed to fill out some forms to add baby to my coverage but does any one know how this works?? I only want medical not anything else like housing or food stamps. And its mainly important for the baby at least for the first few mths. If uve been thru this plz help me

  1. having his name on the BC will not make him liable for the medical expenses .. fill out the forms from your assistance you usually have up to 4 weeks after the baby is born to turn them in. As far as the rest of the assistance if you are elligible they will provide that for you.. you can request not to receive it.. I only had medicaid for preg woman and after my 6 wk ck up only the baby was covered.. i was only covered for my pregnancy thru 6 wk  ck up

  2. The hospital or the state will not  bill the father for the costs, but if you are receiving support from the state and you're not living with the father, they'll probably go after him for child support. You can get just the medical coverage without applying for food stamps or housing. They'll give you the right form.
